Making Peace with Your Past
By Kwesi Kwakye Korankye Kesse | From Bound to Bold
There comes a moment in every person’s life when the echoes of the past grow louder than the hope of the present. Memories resurface, mistakes replay, and regret whispers, “You’ll never change.” But peace is not found in pretending your past never happened. Peace begins when you face it, forgive it, and release it.
The truth is, God never asks us to erase our history. He asks us to surrender it. Every scar, every failure, every wound carries a story that can be redeemed. Your past may replay and send you constant reminders, but it does not define you. The moment you place your pain in God’s hands, He begins the process of transforming it into purpose.
When Joseph faced the brothers who once betrayed him, he didn’t deny his suffering. He acknowledged it, but he also recognised God’s sovereignty:
“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good.” — Genesis 50:20
That is the essence of peace. It’s not pretending everything was fine. It’s trusting that God is using everything, even the painful parts pto shape something beautiful.
If your past still haunts you, pause and breathe. You don’t have to run from your history anymore. You can make peace with it.
Peace doesn’t erase your past; it reframes it. It gives you the courage to say, “I am no longer who I was, and I will no longer be held by what happened.”
Let God write a new chapter where shame once lived. Because when grace steps in, your past no longer has the final say; your deliverance does.
Reflection Question:
What part of your past have you struggled to make peace with, and what truth about God’s grace can you speak over it today?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for not defining me by my mistakes. Help me to release every regret, forgive where I must, and trust You to bring beauty out of my brokenness. Give me peace where there was pain and purpose where there was shame. Amen.
